Implant-Retained Dentures

Implant-Retained Dentures – Get your smile back!

Implant-retained dentures are a cost-effective solution for those who suffer from missing teeth.

The dentures are held securely in place using a small number of implants, making them a more stable alternative than regular removable dentures.

The implants allow the dentures to remain in place without the need for adhesive.

What are implant-retained dentures and how do they work?

Implant-retained dentures can be either permanently-fixed or removable and attach to a small number of titanium dental implants embedded in your jaw bone.

Using a dental impression, we will custom-make your dentures to fit your jaw and face perfectly for a natural look.

Implant-retained dentures offer the same level of security and functionality as a natural set of teeth. So, you can chew and speak naturally without the risk of them slipping or falling out.

Typically, the implants we use for securing a set of dentures are slightly smaller than standard dental implants.

During the procedure, we will attach a set of studs to your gum line where dentures can be attached to.

The implant-retained dentures are held in place by several dental implants but can easily be removed for cleaning.

Who needs implant-retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures are a cost effective way to replace many missing teeth. Dentures are held securely in place with implants. If your dentures are uncomfortable or ill-fitting, implant-retained dentures could be the perfect solution for you.

Many people worry about the embarrassment of dentures moving out of place while they talk, and implant-retained dentures take this worry away.

“Ali is an excellent dentist. He also cares very much for patient well being. Ali also went beyond my expectations this weekend and helped solve my toothache outside of surgery hours. I highly recommend Ali and all staff at this practice.” – Lisa C.

What are the benefits of implant-retained dentures?

  • You don’t need to use denture adhesives, powders, pastes or sticky gum to keep the dentures in place.
  • The implants help to maintain the facial structure as they distribute weight more evenly and help to preserve the remaining bone in your jaws.
  • Dramatically increases your ability to chew. You will be able to eat normally, as though you have all of your natural teeth in place.
  • They are secure, comfortable and reliable – you do not need to fear that your dentures could come loose mid-conversation.

For this treatment method to work, you usually need a minimum of two conventional implants.

This is a small sacrifice to make in order to be able to smile confidently, chew foods, and use your jaw as if you had all of your natural teeth in place.

How long does the treatment procedure take?

The actual procedure is quick, though it can take from between 6 weeks-3 months for your bone and gum to attach to the dental implant.

For the dental implants to bond to your gums before the dentures can be attached.

What does the treatment entail?

Surgery is usually minimal since you only need a small number of implants usually the procedure is often quick, and your current denture can be attached to the new implants immediately.

The four stages of implant denture treatment

“Research shows 3% of people with missing teeth said it has led to them feeling depressed, 15% said it made them self-conscious and 2% complained it adversely affected their love lives.”- Implantium Network

During this phase of treatment, we can provide you with a detailed report. This includes a potential treatment plan and proposed costs for the treatment.

2. Implant placement:

Having implants placed is a small procedure and we can use a local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort if you would prefer.

A titanium implant will be inserted into the jaw bone which replicated the natural tooth root.

If we have recommended a bone regeneration during the consultation phase, this will be completed at the same time as the implant is placed.

The area will then be left to heal and the implant will integrate into your jaw bone.

3. Implant integration:

This is a natural process whereby your dental implants integrate or ‘bond’ with the underlying bone.

It usually takes between 6 weeks and 3 months. You should feel little to no pain during this phase, and if you do experience discomfort you should get in contact with us immediately.

4. Implant denture manufacture:

Once the implants have integrated, the denture is ready to be fitted.

There are only a few dental practices in the UK who have the skills, techniques and equipment required to perform this procedure.

We provide the highest quality dentures that fit perfectly once the implants have been integrated.
