Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure in which composite bonding is used to restore the shape of a tooth that has worn down or suffered dental trauma.
Dental bonding is also used to remove stains on your enamel, which is completely pain-free, and you will usually need to visit the clinic more than once for the colour correction to be complete.
Bonding is one of the least expensive cosmetic procedures and takes less time to complete than veneers or crowns. It is not very invasive at all, requiring minimal tooth removal, and is usually pain-free.
Here at Gentle Dental, the comfort and confidence of our patients are key, and we have been helping patients smile for over 30 years.
Bonding treatments we offer:
Anaesthesia is often not necessary with dental bonding procedures unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth, the tooth needs to be drilled to change its shape, or the chip is close to the nerve.
Before the procedure, one of our dentists will select a composite resin colour that matches the colour of your tooth, to ensure a seamless look.
The bonding process:
A conditioning liquid will be applied to the tooth in order to roughen the surface. This will help the bonding material adhere to the tooth.
Then, the tooth coloured resin is applied, moulded and smoothed to the desired shape.
Once the resin is in place, bright light or laser is used to harden the material onto the tooth.
After the resin has been hardened, one of our experienced staff will then trim and shape it accordingly, until it is shaped perfectly.
Finally, they will polish the tooth so that the bonding matches the sheen of the rest of the tooth’s surface, ready for that gleaming smile!
The procedure usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes per tooth, depending on the bonding treatment.
You will be in the best of hands with our dental specialists, who will ensure that the procedure is painless and pleasant.
Dental bonding tends to last up to 10 years.
Composite materials are not as strong as your natural enamel, so it is important to take proper care of your teeth, by avoiding hard foods, ice cubes and similar substances that can crack the bonding material.
Dental bonding that has corrected the colour of your tooth can last between 4 and 8 years on average.
This depends on the location of the tooth in the mouth, your bite, eating and chewing habits.
