Multiple implants are one of the most recognised and recommended solutions for patients suffering from several missing teeth.

This is because they permanently anchor replacement teeth, leaving patients with a new, transformed smile that is designed to replicate existing teeth.

Alternatively, a more secure and cost-effective solution is placing an implant at both ends of the gap and then using a bridge to fix the implants together.

This method will instantly restore chewing abilities using less amount of implants.

In the past, traditional bridge procedures meant that dentists were required to file neighbouring teeth.

However, new dental implant technology has allowed dentists to avoid damaging healthy teeth and instead focus on bonding the implants with the jaw.

What is a dental implant? The procedure, risks and costs

The implant is a titanium screw that is placed securely into the jawbone acting like an artificial tooth root.

Once healed, a crown or a bridge can hook onto the implant providing long-lasting, natural-looking results.

Before the dental implant procedure, a consultation with the implantologist is required.

This will be to examine the mouth’s oral condition, health and hygiene.

If any underlying health conditions are discovered like gum disease, then they will need to be treated prior to having dental implants placed.

This is because dental implants require a sufficient amount of bone and good gum health. This is to ensure the implant’s success.

The procedure is straightforward, multiple implants can take anywhere from 3-5 hours to place and require no general anaesthetic.

During the healing stage, temporary teeth can be placed until the final restoration a few months later. View our procedure guide here.

Once the implant and the jaw have fused together, an abutment is then applied to the implant to hold your new replacement teeth in position.

The crown or bridge is secured to the top, completing the restoration and fully replacing your missing teeth.

The colour of your crown will be carefully colour-matched by your dentist ensuring an overall improved natural appearance.

Why consider dental implants?

  • Improve dental function: Missing teeth can have a significant impact on the functioning of your mouth. If gaps in your teeth are not restored, can weaken the remaining teeth by impacting on their existing positions and become misaligned. Dental implants have the ability to restore your bite into its correct position.
  • Improve confidence: Aesthetically pleasing smiles play a major role in our lives. Many of our patients have left our dental implant clinic with renewed confidence – they can’t stop smiling! Read our reviews.
  • Bone loss: When a tooth is removed, the remaining bone will not reproduce and eventually disappear due to the breakdown of the cells. Single or Multiple implant placements can maintain the jaw bone shape contributing to a healthier mouth.
